Late Sri. Sunkari Alwar Das redefined leadership — not by titles, but through lives transformed and institutions built. A symbol of perseverance and patriotism, he devoted his life to service, education, and reform.
Born on 31st October 1930 in Visakhapatnam to Sri Srinivasa Rao Naidu and Smt. Alivelu Manga Thayaramma, his early values laid the foundation for a life of public good and human upliftment.
His educational journey spanned Narasipatnam, Srikakulam, Ichapuram, Parvathipuram, and Anakapalli, culminating in an M.A. in Economics from Andhra University and an LL.B. from Delhi University. These qualifications became the foundation of his impactful public service.
As a young nationalist, he joined the Student Congress and took part in the Quit India Movement. He played key roles in the Andhra State formation movement and led the fight for the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
Twice elected as a Municipal Councillor and later as Vice Chairman of the Visakhapatnam Municipality, he was elected MLA in 1978 and served as Minister for Municipal Administration, Urban Development & Education. His progressive policies shaped Visakhapatnam’s modern identity.
Believing that education unlocks transformation, he established three major educational societies:
These institutions continue to serve thousands of students, offering holistic education grounded in values and excellence.
From freedom fighter to minister, from reformer to educator, Sri Sunkari Alwar Das left an enduring legacy — built not just with concrete, but with courage, compassion, and commitment.
He didn’t just serve the people — he empowered them.
He didn’t just build institutions — he built futures.
